چکیده

Current and emerging telecommunications services are strongly dependent upon the Common Channel Signaling Network (CCSN). Regulatory rulings have accelerated the trend towards increased deployment, utilization, and connectivity of CCSNs in the U.S. In this environment, engineering issues concerning the performance, evolution, and reliability of the CCSN are important. Accurate information about the characteristics of CCSN traffic is needed for engineering models, algorithms, and guidelines. In this paper we report on our work analyzing actual CCSN traffic data. The data consist of approximately 170 million signaling messages collected from a variety of different working CCS subnetworks. We have developed a software library that permits fast and flexible analysis of the data despite its size and complexity. Key findings from our analysis concern: (1) the characteristics of both the telephone call arrival process and the signaling message arrival process, (2) the tail behavior of the call holding time distribution, and (3) the observed performance of the CCSN with respect to a variety of performance and reliability measurements.

Design Issues of Media Access Control (MAC) Protocol for Multi-media Traffic Over DS-CDMA Systems

We propose an efficient uplink MAC protocol for a variable spreading gain interference-limited WCDMA system. It can, with high spectral efficiency, support both real-time traffic like speech and video and also non-real-time data traffic based on packet transmission. The schemes for power allocation, scheduling, and transmission rate adaptation for non-real time data traffic schemes are designed...

Analysis of a random-access protocol under long-range-dependent traffic

Aloha-type random-access protocols have been employed as access-control protocols in wireline and wireless, and stationary and mobile, multiple-access communications networks. They are frequently employed by the control and signaling subsystem of demand-assigned multiple-access protocols for regulating the sharing of a multiaccess communications channel. The correct design and sizing of the ran...

Dynamic Uplink Power Control for Cellular Radio Systems over Fast Fading Channel

In cellular wireless CDMA systems, it is required that the base station receives constant power signals from mobile users, in order to guarantee link quality. This is achieved by properly adjusting the uplink transmitted power of each mobile. Usually, the base station is responsible for informing each individual mobile of the power adjustment. However, when the radio channel varies drastically ...

New methods for joint analysis of biological networks and expression data

SUMMARY Biological networks, such as protein interaction, regulatory or metabolic networks, derived from public databases, biological experiments or text mining can be useful for the analysis of high-throughput experimental data. We present two algorithms embedded in the ToPNet application that show promising performance in analyzing expression data in the context of such networks. First, the S...
